Privacy policy

Sautory is being built as a private family archive. This policy explains the information we collect, why we use it, and the choices available to you.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

We may receive your name, email address, account details, family memories, recipes, recordings, photographs, dates, relationships, and other content you choose to add. If you invite someone to a Circle or ask another person to contribute, we may receive the contact details and contribution information needed to fulfil that request.

Information collected automatically

We receive limited technical information such as device and browser type, operating system, approximate region, IP address, timestamps, error reports, and interaction events. We use this information to keep Sautory available, diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and understand which features need improvement.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

• create and maintain your account and Circles;
• store, organise, search, transcribe, and display your Memories;
• deliver invitations, guest contributions, notifications, and links;
• provide requested AI-assisted summaries, transcripts, or derivatives;
• process purchases, subscriptions, and print orders when offered;
• respond to support requests and communicate service updates;
• protect the service, investigate abuse, and enforce our terms; and
• measure performance and improve the product.

We do not sell personal information or use family content to advertise unrelated products. We do not use private family content to train a general-purpose AI model without a separate, explicit permission.

3. How we share information

We share information only in these limited circumstances:

• With people you choose. Content may be visible to Circle members, invited guests, or anyone who receives a link or contribution invitation from you.
• With service providers. Hosting, storage, email, payments, analytics, transcription, and other providers may process information only to provide services to us under appropriate instructions.
• For safety and legal reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to a valid legal process, protect someone's safety, or prevent fraud and abuse.
• During a business change. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to applicable confidentiality requirements.

4. Your content and privacy settings

Sautory is designed around private family archives, but no online service can guarantee absolute secrecy. Review Circle membership, invitations, public links, and guest-contribution settings before sharing. You are responsible for deciding whether you have permission to upload or share another person's story, image, voice, recipe, or personal information.

5. Retention and deletion

We keep account and archive information for as long as needed to provide Sautory, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, maintain security records, and enforce agreements. When you delete content or close an account, deletion may take time to propagate through backups, logs, and systems operated by service providers. Some information may be retained where required by law or needed to prevent fraud and abuse.

6. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organisational safeguards intended to protect information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or alteration. You are responsible for using a strong password or sign-in method, keeping access codes private, and telling us promptly if you believe your account or a sharing link has been compromised.

7. Children

Sautory is not directed to children who are not permitted to use the service under the laws that apply to them. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate permission, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.

8. International processing

Our service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers and protect the information according to this policy.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, object to, or delete personal information, or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You can request these actions by emailing hello@sautory.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. You may also unsubscribe from non-essential emails; service and security messages may still be sent when necessary.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Sautory changes. We will update the date below and, when a change is material, provide additional notice where appropriate. Your continued use of Sautory after an update means the updated policy applies to your use of the service.
